Photography and Filming Consent
During your child’s time with us we will gather information about them which we will use for various purposes. Full details about the way in which we will use your child’s information is set out in our Pupil and Parent Privacy Notice which is available to view on our website.
There are some things that we will not do with your child’s information unless you give us permission to do so. This includes publishing photographs of your child where they could be viewed by people outside our school community.
It is important to note that we do not rely on your consent for all photography and filming of your children. Our safeguarding procedures mean that we take photographs of children for identification and safeguarding purposes, including storing those images on our Management Information System (Bromcom). We also need to take photographs and video footage of children for teaching, learning and assessment purposes. Some of that content may be shared with external parties such as examination boards as part of assessment, invigilation and evidential purposes. We may also take photos and video of children for school community and celebratory purposes, which may be viewed only by our school community. Our lawful basis for that processing is ‘Public Task’. You cannot withhold consent for this, but you do have the right to ‘object’, which you can discuss with us. We will always be sensitive to individual circumstances and are committed to working with families and our students to ensure we listen and respond to any concerns. Please see our Privacy Notice for more information on your data protection rights.
Please be aware that our school is part of River Learning Trust. When you provide consent for photography and filming, this includes the use of your child's images for wider trust purposes. This means that photographs or video footage of your child may be used across the trust for the purposes you have consented to above, including on trust-wide websites, social media channels, promotional materials, and media publications that represent the trust as a whole. For example, your child's photograph may be featured in trust-wide newsletters, annual reports, or promotional campaigns that showcase the achievements and activities across all our trust schools. The same data protection standards and safeguarding measures apply to all uses of your child's images within the trust, and your consent (or withdrawal of consent) applies equally to both school-specific and trust-wide uses. If you have any questions about how your child's images may be used across the trust, please contact Louise Askew, RLT Data Protection Officer, at laskew@riverlearningtrust.org for further clarification.
You are completely free to refuse to provide your consent to any of the purposes listed below. You do not have to provide reasons for refusing your consent, but we are happy for you to give us any additional information if you choose to so that we understand any concerns that you have and can take appropriate steps where necessary.
If you have any concerns about us taking photographs of your child, please contact the Headteacher. Please note, if you do provide consent for photographs, we will rely on this consent for the duration of your child’s attendance at our school, although this can be withdrawn by you or your child at any time. Similarly, if you do not consent now, but wish to change your mind at a later date, this can be done at any time. Any photographs will be retained in accordance with our Records Management Policy and may be retained once your child leaves our school, providing your consent is not withdrawn in the meantime.
